A multi-family dwelling in the 400 block of Community College Drive caught fire on Saturday, the Baton Rouge Fire Department said.

Firefighters were called about the 12-unit, multiple family property fire around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman Curt Monte said in a news release.

When firefighters arrived one of the units was engulfed in flames, as the fire spread from the kitchen to the attic, Monte said. The fire was contained in four of the units, while another received water damage, Monte said.

Firefighters do not suspect foul play and believe the fire started in kitchen of the unit initially found in flames when firefighters arrived, Monte said. He said the damage overall is estimated at $300,000.
