Girl Scouts Louisiana East Council will sponsor a series of art workshops next month for girls from Jefferson Parish.
The workshops, led by professional artist Nick Mahshie, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 7, June 14 and June 21 at the council headquarters, 841 S. Clearview Parkway, Old Jefferson.
Those participating will work in acrylics, watercolor and oil and may attend as many workshops as they like. The cost is $10 per person regardless of the number of workshops girls plan to attend. Each workshop is limited to 30 girls.
All art materials, snacks and drinks will be provided, but those participating should bring a lunch. The program fee will allow participants to take home a finished work of art after each session.
The program is supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council. The grant is administered by the Arts Council of New Orleans.
Lafreniere Park concerts
A reminder that May 22 and May 29 will be the last two of the free concerts from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Lafreniere Park, 3000 Downs Blvd., Metairie.
The Wise Guys perform May 22, and on May 29, The Top Cats perform.
Creativity series set in June
A 12-week series based on Julia Cameron’s book, “The Artist’s Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity” will be offered on Monday nights at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 West Napoleon Ave., Metairie.
The class will begin at 7 p.m. June 2 and will conclude Aug. 18. The series is free of charge and is open to the public. Registration is not required.
“The Artist’s Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity” is a self-help book and was written to assist people with artistic creative recovery. It teaches techniques and exercises to assist people in gaining self-confidence.
The book was originally published in 1992 and is in its tenth printing.
