A Gonzales man was indicted Thursday in the March 20 shooting death of an 18-year-old woman and wounding of her stepfather at a home on North 30th Street in Baton Rouge.

Quintin Marcel Thomas, 26, 14086 Airline Highway, was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Idalis Smith, attempted second-degree murder and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore III said Thomas is accused of killing Smith during the robbery of someone else in the Smith residence.

An East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury indictment indicates Thomas has a prior aggravated battery conviction in the 19th Judicial District Court.

Thomas was arrested March 24 in the Smith shooting and remains in jail.

His case was assigned to state District Judge Richard Anderson.
