Gov. Bobby Jindal signed legislation Wednesday that requires abortion clinics in Louisiana to post signs outlining alternatives to abortion.
House Bill 636 by state Rep. Frank Hoffmann, R-West Monroe, calls for the state Department of Health and Hospitals to design signs to tell pregnant women that, among other things, their unborn child’s father is obligated to pay child support and adoptive parents are willing to pay costs.
The signs will be posted in the six licensed abortion clinics in Louisiana.
Jindal traveled to Monroe to sign the legislation.
“Before police arrest someone, they inform them of all their rights under the law, so it’s only common sense that we would do the same for women before they get an abortion,” the governor said in a prepared statement.
