A pickup caught fire as it rolled down Bluebonnet Boulevard on Sunday afternoon, but both the driver and his son escaped injury.

Shortly after fueling up his 2011 Chevrolet Silverado about 4:15 p.m., Moses Richard and his son, Jaylin Armwood, noticed smoke billowing through the dashboard into the cab.

Just moments after the pair pulled off of Bluebonnet Boulevard and jumped out of the pickup, it exploded into flames, engulfing the vehicle and touching off a series of explosions that sent a thick black plume of smoke over the street.

Firefighters from the St. George Fire Department extinguished the fire within minutes, but not before the flames gutted the interior of the truck and burned out much of the engine compartment.

It was not clear Sunday what caused the fire. Beyond some minor burns on his hands, neither Richard nor his son were injured in the incident.
