Registration for Girl Scout camps to begin _lowres

Priority registration for Girl Scout resident camps will be held from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Girl Scouts Louisiana East Council’s regional service center, 545 Colonia Drive, Baton Rouge.

Priority registration helps guarantee a Girl Scout group or individual girl’s placement in the camp session of their choice before general registration opens on Feb. 20, a news release said.

Resident camp sessions will be held at Camp Marydale, in St. Francisville, and Camp Whispering Pines in Independence from May 29 to July 22 to all girls in first grade through 12th grade. Cost for two-day to two-week sessions ranges from $50 to $400. Girls not in Girl Scouting are welcome to attend. There also are sessions this year for Girl Scout troops.

Activities vary according to session and age level but may include swimming, boating, outdoor cooking, archery, high or low ropes, rock climbing, hiking, horseback riding and more. The programs are accredited by the American Camp Association.

“Summer camp gets girls off their smartphones and outside,” said Jill Pollard, chief development officer of program and properties at Girl Scouts Louisiana East. “Camp is about having fun and making new friends, but it also builds self-reliance and develops leadership skills.”
