A 57-year-old man was reported battling life-threatening injuries Thursday morning after he was shot in the head during an altercation on Runnymede Avenue late Wednesday, police said.

The victim was outside his residence at 10153 Runnymede Ave. about 10 p.m. when he was attacked in what police believe could have been an attempted robbery, said Sgt. L'Jean McKneely.

The victim tried to fight off the attack, but then the assailant fired several rounds, one striking the victim in the head, McKneely said.

EMS transported the victim to a hospital Wednesday night, where he was listed in critical condition Thursday morning, McKneely said.

Police have not identified a suspect and continue to investigate the incident.
