A Baton Rouge man who fatally shot his brother-in-law at a 2013 family gathering was convicted Friday of second-degree murder.

Derrick Bland was accused of shooting 40-year-old James Stockton, who also was his roommate on North Lobdell Boulevard, as Stockton left the apartment with his family on July 28, 2013, after the two men had argued.

Bland, 49, faces an automatic term of life in prison when state District Judge Trudy White sentences him June 30.
