Math students at Runnels Elementary School participated in the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Math-A-Thon and raised $6,359 to help kids battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Runnels has raised more than $140,000 for St. Jude during the past 11 years, through a range of charitable events.

“I appreciate our students’ love and effort that makes the fundraiser such a success every year. They make me so proud,” said Runnels Math-A-Thon coordinator Christine Pousson.

Students participate in the campaign by solving age-appropriate math problems in a printed or online Math-A-Thon Funbook. Family and friends are asked for donations in support of a student’s participation.

Runnels’ top contributing participants this year were fourth-grader Eddie Tunis, who raised $800; third-grader Evan Shaneyfelt, who collected $635; and second-grader Megan Shaneyfelt, who brought in $500.

All students in first through sixth grades were invited to participate.
