A hands-on cooking demonstration and store tour for people with diabetes will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at Alexander’s Highland Market, 18111 Highland Market Drive.

Dietitians from Pennington Biomedical Research Center will prepare pesto shrimp kebabs and herbed quinoa while sharing tips on how to flavor food without adding extra calories. They’ll also talk about the importance of balancing healthy eating for good diabetes control and how to fit a wide variety of healthy carbohydrates into your daily meal plan and will discuss lean proteins, whole grains, dairy, fruits and vegetables.

Following the demonstration, dietitians will offer a store tour of the best foods to maximize flavor while managing diabetes and will explain nutrition labels.
