Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge recently recognized maintenance mechanic Jim LaFleur for 50 years of service, the longest tenure of any Lake employee.
“It’s been a happy 50 years,” LaFleur said in a news release, “and I wouldn’t trade it for a thing.”
LaFleur said he made a promise to one of the nuns when he first started his job in 1965 at age 25.
“Mother Margaret Ann told me the only way I could work here is if I worked here for 50 years. I told her if I was healthy enough then I would, so that’s what I tried to do,” he said.
Co-workers consider LaFleur a mentor and trusted colleague, according to the release.
“Mr. Jim has always been like a teacher back here for us younger guys and gals,” supervisor Rowdy Tucker said. “He always makes newcomers feel so welcome and always has an OLOL story to tell them. He is the most devoted employee I have ever worked with.”
