Child Advocacy Services recently presented the 2016 Mary Ellen Award to LeBlanc’s Food Stores and the LeBlanc family.
The award is given yearly to an individual or business who exceptionally supports CAS’ mission to give voice, healing and security to children, according to a news release. Recipients are nominated by CAS staff and members of the board of directors.
LeBlanc’s Food Stores, owned by brothers Marcy and Randy LeBlanc, is headquartered in Gonzales and operates nine full-service supermarkets. Family members Brooke LeBlanc Knight and Matthew LeBlanc have worked with CAS on events during April to help bring awareness to Child Abuse Prevention Month. They also have run the Blue Ribbon campaign in their stores.
The Mary Ellen Award is named after Mary Ellen Wilson, who was the first documented case of child abuse and neglect in the United States, the release said.
