The Louisiana National Guard welcomed home members of the 926th Engineer Company at the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport. The 926th is based out of Baker and conducted route clearance and combat-engineer operations to maintain safe travel for United States Forces – Afghanistan and International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. The unit was deployed for 365 days and included about 100 people. Their primary mission was to find and destroy improvised explosive devices targeted at U.S. and allied forces. They were also responsible for building fighting positions and basic defensive works for units in their area of operation.
