Advocate staff photo by BILL FEIG -- SU student Reginald Rice bounces the sledgehammer off the piano keys, which sends parts flying. Southern University students, fresh from a stressful midterm week, relieved that stress by using a sledgehammer to smash a piano. The smashing good time was a fundraising event sponsored by the Phi Mu Alpha music fraternity. The first swing started outside of Stewart Hall and continued until the piano was destroyed.

Southern University music fraternity Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fundraiser set aside a piano that was going to be thrown away, and offered chances to give the instrument a whack with sledgehammer for stress reduction.
