Nine properties were sold at auction Wednesday during the city-parish’s monthly sale of properties seized for non-payment of taxes.

All were south of Interstate 12, and five of the properties were on adjacent lots on Pecan Tree Drive south of Burbank Drive. They were purchased by the same bidder, identified only by a number, for about $53,000 total.

The most expensive single property was a lot in the Sharlo subdivision off Brightside Drive that went for $30,000. However, sales from Wednesday’s auction have not yet closed.

City officials initially said they were preparing to auction 16 properties, though only nine received bids according to CivicSource.com, which began handling the city’s auctions online earlier this year.

Properties received up to 187 bids, generally gradual increases between two competing prospective buyers.

Next month’s auction could be much larger, as 34 properties are currently listed for sale. Opening bids range between $4,000 and $9,000. The sale begins June 1 at 8 a.m.
