Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council has launched its summer Laptops for Kids program, in which prekindergarten through high school students can purchase deeply discounted laptop computers.
The program ends Aug. 15. Laptops cost $90, run Windows 7 and come with a one-year warranty. Students must bring their school ID or current year report card to qualify.

Movies on the Plaza
Disney-Pixar’s “Brave” kicks off the Friday Night Movies on the Plaza series at 7 p.m. Friday at the Main Library. Families are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to view the film on the big screen in the outdoor plaza and take photos with a Scottish princess from the Petite Princess Company.
Refreshments will be available for purchase, and complimentary punch will be served. The movie will be simulcast in the library’s large meeting room for those in need of air conditioning.

Library movie matinees
Jones Creek Regional Branch Library will show “Shaun the Sheep” at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Sunday.
The movie is rated PG with a running time of 1 hour, 25 minutes.
Swamp bird walk
Join a member of the Baton Rouge Audubon Society for a morning bird walk, featuring bird-watching techniques and identification tips, through Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center at 7 a.m. Saturday.
Beginner birders are welcome. Field guides and binoculars are optional but recommended. General admission fees apply; pass holders get in free.

Youth Ballet to perform
The summer tour of “Graduation Ball,” presented by Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre’s Youth Ballet, comes to Jones Creek Regional Branch Library at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Guests are asked to preregister by calling (225) 756-1160.
The original ballet is directed by Rebecca Acosta and is free and open to the public. The comedy features a group of Viennese girls and military cadets at their graduation ball.
Fundraiser performances to offset the cost of the tour will be at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Dancer’s Workshop, 10745 Linkwood Court. Admission is $5 per child and $10 for ages 15 and older.
Teen craft time at Jones Creek Regional Branch Library from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday features painting a unique piece of wall art using a taping technique.

Time for Laser Tag
Cajun Laser Tag will have a free obstacle course set up for teens from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Creek Regional Branch Library. Signed parental permission is required.
