A 22-year-old Baton Rouge man pleaded guilty to negligent homicide Thursday in a 2012 car crash that killed a 25-year-old man on Burbank Drive.

Alexander Friedy will be sentenced Feb. 3 by state District Judge Trudy White in the death of Andrew Eugene Raborn.

Friedy, who was speeding, told authorities he was reaching for a cigarette lighter when he smashed into Raborn’s car on Jan. 5, 2012.

“This is devastating for the victim’s family. Alex and his family are devastated too,” said Bo Rougeou, who represents Friedy. “Hopefully, this plea will begin healing for both families.”

A lawsuit filed by Raborn’s parents against Friedy alleged Friedy was driving in excess of 100 mph at the time of the crash.
