Baton Rouge City Appreciation Day at the Baton Rouge Zoo is set for Feb. 13. Buy one regular-price admission and get one of equal or lesser value for free when presenting an official Louisiana driver’s license with a recognized ZIP code.

The buy-one-get-one discount will be recognized for all East Baton Rouge Parish ZIP codes beginning with “708,” with the exception of 70818. Residents in the 7818 zip code can take advantage of the special on Feb. 20. The offer is valid on recognized City Appreciation Days only and is not valid in combination with any other offer.

Peoples Health presentations

Dr. Cordel Y. Parris will speak on “Women and Heart Health” at noon Friday at the Angel Heart Center, 236 Wabash Blvd. Registration time is 11 a.m. and is limited to 200 people.

Christine Levy will speak on “ABCs of Medicare” at 10 a.m. Friday at the A.C. Lewis YMCA, 350 S. Foster Drive. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. and is limited to 30 people.

Holiday library closures

River Center Branch Library will be closed Saturday because of the Spanish Town and Ultimate Louisiana Party parade and activities in Town Square and downtown areas. Regular hours will resume Sunday.

The Carver, Eden Park, Main and River Center libraries will be closed Tuesday for Mardi Gras. Regular hours will resume Wednesday.

Black History Month events

Part I of the Black History Month Film Series features the story of Jackie Robinson’s rise to fame as he signs with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. The film, a take on 1940s racism and the human struggle, starts at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in meeting room 1 of Carver Branch Library.

Eden Park Branch Library is celebrating Black History Month with African-American history trivia from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the library meeting room.

First Free Sunday

Monday is the registration deadline for BREC’s Adult Coed Flag Football League for ages 17 and older at Kathy Drive Park, Plank Road Park and Independence Community Park.

Movie night at Eden Park

“All the King’s Men,” a movie based on the Robert Penn Warren novel about a Southern governor inspired by Louisiana’s Huey P. Long, will be shown at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Eden Park Branch Library. Popcorn will be served.

Zodiac constellation wall art

Using a few craft supply staples, teens can make zodiac constellation wall art from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 11 at River Center Branch Library. White nails will serve as stars connected by white string to create a full constellation.
