FRANKLIN — Authorities continue to search in St. Mary Parish for a hunter from Jeanerette who was last seen early last week.

Sheriff Mark Hebert said that Iberia Parish deputies, state wildlife agents and the Coast Guard are looking for 58-year-old Lynn Landry.

The Daily Iberian reported that family members last saw him paddling away from his camp near Myette Point — about 8 miles northwest of Franklin — on Dec. 20. Hebert says his truck was still at the landing on Sunday, and his pirogue was not at the camp.

The Iberian says the family called the Sheriff’s Office on Thursday after trying to reach Landry by phone.

Hebert said Landry is experienced at navigating the Atchafalaya Basin, where he owns land and hunts year-round.

He said other hunters aided the search by checking deer stands during the weekend. High water in some of the canals has hampered the search, making it difficult for the larger boats to enter them, but they are doing all they can, Hebert said.
