Sacred Heart of Jesus Church celebrated its 87th anniversary with a special Mass said Dec. 27 in the church, celebrated by the Most Rev. Shelton Fabre, bishop of Houma-Thibodaux and former pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, and the Rev. Miles Walsh, current parish pastor.

Special guests were the Sisters of St. Joseph, who have a long history of service to the parish and school, and Sam Moran, the first baby christened in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church on Dec. 25, 1928.

The Mass was followed by a reception in the parish hall and on the church grounds where guests enjoyed gumbo prepared by Knights of Columbus #3298 and served on silver trays by school-age parishioners. Special decorations in the parish hall included 50-inch Fontanini statues of the Holy Family, donated to the parish by Carlton Sheely and his wife.

Event committee members were Re DiVincenti, Corrie Hester, Jennifer Jones and members of Knights of Columbus #3298.
