East Baton Rouge Parish Prison Warden Dennis Grimes led media members Tuesday through the prison, past the chipped paint of the cells and some leaky ceilings.

Sheriff Sid Sid Gautreaux pushed for a new tax that voters would have decided on come May that would have paid for a new, larger parish prison with a price tag more than $200 million. The Metro Council voted against sending the tax plan to voters, some saying they did not have enough time to consider the ideas while others encouraged exploring other options for the prison like privatization.
