Former New Orleans Saints player Steve Gleason thanked New Orleans for showing him resilience in the wake of tragedy after Hurricane Katrina in his love letter to the city.

Uproxx.com reports Gleason's video was part of a series where New Orleanians thank the city in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

In his letter, Gleason compared his ALS diagnosis to the levees' breach in 2005. "My invincible body has failed me," Gleason wrote. "But like the residents of a city built two feet below sea level, I choose to be an idealist. We simply must be steadfast, maniacal idealists."
