Louisiana flood survivors may qualify for special tax relief as families and businesses prepare to file with the Internal Revenue Service.

The IRS announced Wednesday that folks in the disaster area can receive extended deadlines, waived penalties and quicker request processing.

Specific information about the program is available by calling (866) 562-5227.

The IRS has also emphasized that federal disaster assistance is not considered taxable income by their agency or Social Security.
