Veterans Day at the zoo

Baton Rouge Zoo will recognize and honor those actively serving and those who have served in the armed forces from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Activities will include displays and demonstrations by military and military support groups, as well as a special bald eagle chat.

Military veterans and active military will receive free admission for themselves and up to five guests when presenting a valid military ID. Regular admission applies for non-military members.

Meet and greet

Jones Creek Regional Branch Library will host a meet and greet with photographer Melinda Rose from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Rose will discuss her photo essay, “Of the Rising Tide,” featuring Isles de St. Charles, a remote island community in Terrebonne Parish. The photos highlight the everyday life of a Chitimacha Native American community on the verge of losing its home to coastal erosion. Rose also will discuss the Biloxi and Choctaw tribes.

Teen Movie Day

“Jurassic World,” rated PG-13, will be shown to teens from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Jones Creek Regional Branch Library. Refreshments will be served.

Active Older Adults

A free Active Older Adults class with instructor Lisa Hutson will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at C.B. Pennington Jr. YMCA, 15550 Old Hammond Highway. Registration begins at 10 a.m.

Love at home

A workshop dedicated to keeping love, marriages and commitments alive with Eric Campbell will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at Jones Creek Regional Branch Library.

Married couples will enjoy a night of fun and games such as a roll of dice to spice up your life, a play of cards to beat the odds, spin the Cupid, match game and a kissing booth.

Splash pad closes

In preparation for winter, BREC closed the Forest Community Park splash pad for the 2015 season on Oct. 31. The splash pad will reopen in the spring.
