Baton Rouge running organizations are hosting a run downtown Saturday morning to honor the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.

The run is planned for 2.62 miles, which is one-tenth of a marathon.

Runners should meet on the steps of the State Capitol before 8 a.m. and are encouraged to wear the Boston Marathon colors of yellow and blue.

Michelle LeBlanc, owner of the Baton Rouge running store Fleet Feet, said Iberia Bank will have a tent at the run to collect donations that will go to the victims’ families.

The run is informal, and streets will not be closed, so participants are encouraged to obey traffic laws.

LeBlanc said the run was planned quickly after the Monday bombing by the active running community.

The run is free and open to the public. On Saturday at 10 a.m. downtown, there will also be the Color Run, a 5K which requires registration.
