Caden Carver, a junior at University High School, will participate in the National Security Language Initiative for Youth scholarship program this summer.

Carver will spend seven weeks studying the Korean language in Jeonju, South Korea. He was one of 3,900 applicants this year, of which 600 finalists were selected.

The U.S. Department of State sponsors the program, which provides merit-based scholarships for high school students and recent high school graduates to learn less commonly taught languages in overseas immersion programs, a news release said.
