LSU graduate student Chelsey C. Geeting, a native of Brunswick, Maine, will compete in the Gerda Lissner International Lieder/Song Competition in New York on Thursday.

The Gerda Lissner Foundation was created to provide young opera singers with opportunities to showcase their talents and win the financial support they need to pursue their craft at a professional level, a news release said. The Lieder/Song Competition offers prizes ranging from $1,000 to a $7,000 top prize.

Geeting will give a fundraising recital at University United Methodist Church on Sunday. She also will be a featured soloist in the Louisiana Sinfonietta’s 2015-16 season with her first performance on Oct. 11.

In February, she will compete in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.

Geeting received a bachelor of music degree from Stetson University in 2013 and a master of music degree from LSU this past spring and is continuing her studies as a doctoral student.

She has performed in several staged productions and opera scenes with LSU Opera, Stetson Opera Theatre and Orlando International Opera Workshop.
