A Zachary woman who illegally accepted Social Security benefits over a 14-year span by concealing that she remarried after she started receiving survivor’s benefits was ordered Thursday to pay more than $83,000 in restitution.
Ruby C. Dunn, 63, also was put on probation for two years by U.S. District Judge Shelly Dick.
She pleaded guilty in May to theft of government property.
Dunn began receiving survivor benefits in 1993 but remarried in 1999, making her ineligible to continue getting benefits, federal prosecutors have said.
She misrepresented her marital status to the Social Security Administration on numerous occasions, prosecutors said.
