A few months ago, I was in a business right by the bridge on College Drive between Perkins Road and Concord Avenue when I noticed police and Emergency Medical Services personnel helping a man who was apparently living under the bridge. The amount of trash piled up appeared to be hampering the police who were trying to check on the man and get him up to the street level. I again visited the same business two weeks ago and was surprised to see that the homeless are still living under there, as several carpets had been strung along the large drainage pipe. Is the city aware of this situation, and what is it planning to do to clean up the area and discourage others from living there?
We touched base with Michael Acaldo, CEO of the Baton Rouge Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization that provides numerous services for the indigent.
"Thanks for bringing this to our attention," Acaldo said. "I will send a staff person to visit the site to see if we can offer any assistance. We do make outreach efforts to the homeless.
"Unfortunately, I know that we made some outreach efforts in this area after Casa Maria closed. It was in the shopping center next to GameStop, and it a had side porch that several homeless people were living in. We made outreach efforts, but at that time, the persons were not interested in services."

I would like to know who's in charge of repairs on the service road on the south side of the intersection of Florida Boulevard at Sharp Road. This service road is in a deplorable condition. It rattles my teeth every time I have to cross Florida Boulevard. Been like this for years.
"This is our roadway," says Brendan J. Rush, customer service manager for the state Department of Transportation and Development. "Our district has been alerted, and they will add this section to our upcoming maintenance projects."
