Sheriff’s deputies found the mother of a little girl who was discovered early Thursday wandering around a Jefferson Highway apartment building without supervision.

Apparently, the child’s mother was at work and the little girl, who is 4 or 5 years old, was supposed to be staying with a relative at the Jefferson Lakes Apartments, 12400 Jefferson Highway, said Casey Rayborn Hicks, a spokeswoman for the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Hicks said deputies were summoned to the apartment complex at about 7:30 a.m. when the child was found wandering around, unattended.

“The circumstances which led to the child being alone are still under investigation,” Hicks said.
