A June drug deal gone bad at BREC’s Airline Highway Park led to the indictment Thursday of one man on a murder charge and two others on attempted armed robbery charges.
An East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury charged Ronald T. Lockett Jr., 19, 516 Cypress St., Baker, with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Sajaray Franklin Jr., of Baton Rouge.
Bodrick Tremaine Tuggle, 17, 3883 Winbourne Ave., Baton Rouge, and Christopher Lamonte Gray, 19, 37035 Murphy Webb Road, Prairieville, are accused of attempting to rob Lockett.
East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s officials have said Franklin and Tuggle met with Lockett in the parking lot on June 23, intending to rob Lockett of $1,500 during a marijuana sale. Franklin and Tuggle were friends.
Gray, according to an affidavit, was not present during the crime but set up the meeting.
The case has been assigned to state District Judge Beau Higginbotham.
BREC’s Airline Park is the site of the annual Greater Baton Rouge State Fair.
