Two staff members from the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness will be heading to Hawaii to help respond to the aftermath of two tropical storms.
Louisiana workers will join emergency workers from several other states to help during a two-week mission as part of the Emergency Management Assistance Compact. Established in 1996, this agreement spells how states assist each other during disasters.
The team will work in the Hawaii Emergency Operations Center to help process requests and help with organizational issues like putting together reports on current situations, according to a press release from GOHSEP.
Previously, staff from GOHSEP have helped in the aftermath of events like Hurricane Sandy in the Northeast, flooding in Tennessee and the 2011 tornados in Alabama, according to the news release.
Louisiana also has been on the receiving end of this help after hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Gustav.
