Warrior Spirit filled the air during St. Michael High School’s homecoming celebrations held Sept. 14-18 at the school.

This year’s theme was “A Southern State of Mind” and each class represented a different state: freshmen, Texas; sophomores, Tennessee; juniors, Florida; and seniors, Louisiana.

The week began with a homeroom door decorating contest where Emily Flanders’ class was awarded the first place prize.

Tennis Shoe Tuesday followed as students were allowed to wear tennis shoes for the day. Sept. 16 was School Spirit Day and the homecoming parade and pep rally were held. Members of the homecoming court rode in convertibles and were led by the Warrior Band, cheerleaders, dancers and flag team around the school’s neighborhood for the annual parade.

The fun continued in the school gym where students, faculty, parents and alumni packed the stands for a pep rally.

Sept. 17 found the campus full of camouflage, Duck Dynasty beards, cowboy boots and beach hats as students dressed for the homecoming theme. Friday’s Red and Black Day allowed students and faculty to wear their school colors in preparation for the big football game.

St. Michael fans gathered at Leadership Field Sept. 18 to watch the Warriors take on the McKinley Panthers.

The Alumni Office held a special tailgate party.

The homecoming maids were presented at halftime in a ceremony. Jansen Bourgeois and Rachel Connors were the sophomore maids; junior maids included Elena Eddington, Sarah Hille and Rachel Wilson; and representing the senior class were senior maids Amari Bellard, Paige Boudreaux, Shelby Manuel, Laken Marionneaux and Beth Seidenglanz. Amari Bellard was crowned homecoming queen by St. Michael Principal Ellen Lee and last year’s queen Lindsey Ellis.

Homecoming festivities concluded Saturday night with the dance held in the school’s gym, where the homecoming escorts were presented along with the homecoming maids. Sophomore escorts were Hunter McCann and Trey Parker; junior escorts were Spencer Buvens, William Hartmann and Scott Terrell; and senior escorts included Avery Dearman, Matthew Miller, Davon Parker, Brett Ross and Colin Shortess. Parker was crowned homecoming king and joined Bellard for a special dance.
