A fire at a duplex on Balis Drive early Thursday heavily damaged the building and left one resident with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department.

Firefighters, arriving at 2456 Balis Drive at 2:46 a.m., found one side of the duplex heavily involved with fire. The fire spread into the attic before being brought under contol at 3:11 a.m.

A resident of one of the units was taken to the hospital by EMS. The other unit, which sustained mostly smoke and water damage, was furnished but it wasn’t immediately clear if anyone lived there. In total, the fire caused an estimated $150,000 in damage.
