Baton Rouge police detectives arrested Kyle Russ Jr. early Sunday in the shooting death Friday of Elijah Stevenson on Iroquois Street after a dice game.
Detectives found Russ, 18, of 3965 North St., at his mother’s residence, 3965 N. 38th St., said police spokesman Cpl. Don Coppola Jr. in a news release.
Russ, who refused to make any statements to police, was booked into Parish Prison on counts of first-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon, Coppola said.
Stevenson, 21, of 3821 Maywood St., was shot and killed as he walked with an acquaintance in the 3800 block of Iroquois Street about 3:50 p.m. Friday after leaving a dice game.
Stevenson was approached from behind by a man on a bike who, Coppola said at the time, is known as “K.J.” He said K.J. was also present at the dice game.
K.J. pulled a pistol from his waist band and fired shots at Stevenson, who died from multiple gunshot wounds, Coppola said.
The investigation is continuing.
