Free man for now: Marksville deputy marshal accused in murder of 6 year old out on bail _lowres

Jeremy David Mardis, the child shot and killed in Marksville Tuesday night, is the youngest victim shot dead by American police officers this year, according to the Washington Post.

Out of the 834 people shot and killed by officers across America, the 6-year-old Mardis is the youngest.

A chase dead-ending Tuesday night at a shuttered state park in Marksville ended in the death of a 6-year-old boy after deputy city marshals opened fire on the car his father had been driving.

The boy’s father, 25-year-old Chris Few, also was shot multiple times. He was airlifted to Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, where he was listed in stable condition.

No gun was found in the vehicle driven by Few, a state police official said Thursday.
