On Railroad Avenue in the historic district of Donaldsonville, the door of The Grapevine Cafe is posted with a sign giving a message about its closure due to the water outage, and it's re-opening on Thursday, seen on Wednesday, January 3, 2018. The water outage across the city is related to the recent cold weather.

The arctic blast that's settled in south Louisiana has caused problems with running water in several areas, including Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Lafayette.

With customers dripping water in homes and businesses to prevent pipes from freezing, demand has increased and put a strain on resources in some cases. Some areas have implemented boil-water advisories. Others have asked customers to stop dripping water while temperatures are above freezing.

As of Wednesday afternoon in Donaldsonville, Ascension Parish government officials said they hoped to restore water to a hospital and nursing home in by midday or later Wednesday afternoon after they made the decision around 5 a.m. to shut down the parish water system.

Below is a map tracking areas having water issues and what water local officials are recommending residents and business owners do.
