The Family Fit Day celebration at BREC’s City-Brooks Community Park originally set for Saturday has been postponed to May 30 because of weekend rain forecasts.

The annual event, which offers residents a chance to experience fitness classes, healthy cooking demonstrations and other activities will be from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 30, organizers said.

Streets that loop around City-Brooks Community Park and City Park Lake will be closed to vehicles so they can be used for bike rides and other fitness activities.

Baton Rouge is one of more than 90 cities in the United States and Canada that hosts an Open Streets event where streets are blocked off for walking, biking, socializing and other activities.

“Like our other Healthy BR programs, this event is dedicated to promoting family fitness through healthy eating and active lifestyles,” Mayor-President Kip Holden said in a news release.

He said this Family Fit Day will include the Mayor’s Annual Family Bike Ride.
