Capital Area Court Appointed Special Advocate Association is in need of volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in foster care to reach safe, permanent homes.

Orientation sessions lasting 45 minutes will be held at 848 Louisiana Ave. at 1 p.m. Feb. 5, 10 a.m. Feb. 13, 12:30 p.m. Feb. 16, 6 p.m. Feb. 25 and noon Feb. 29.

Train Day at the Library

A day of trains for the model railroad enthusiast begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jones Creek Regional Branch Library. Families are welcome to attend.

There will be PowerPoint presentations and slide shows, as well as model trains and train books on display.

Exhibited groups include the National Railway Historical Society, Louisiana Operation Lifesaver, the Train Collectors Association, the Greater Baton Rouge Model Railroaders and more.

‘Star Wars’ and Legos

Children ages 4 to 8 are welcome at Jones Creek Regional Branch Library from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday for a “Star Wars” story and a chance to create something from the “Star Wars” universe during a Lego Junior Maker program. Kickboxing classes

BREC offers classes in kickboxing, which combines boxing and martial arts to help tone and trim physiques, for ages 16 and older from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays at Baringer Road Park. Cost is $30 per month. Call (225) 751-3733.

Learn to line dance

Lessons in line dancing — a sequence of choreographed dance steps in which participants move in lines or rows, facing the same direction and executing the same steps at the same time — are offered every Tuesday at Parklawn Adult Leisure Center.

Class times are 9 a.m. for advanced dancers, 10:15 a.m. for intermediate dancers and 11:30 a.m. for beginners. Cost is $22 a month for beginner or $27 for intermediate and advanced. Call (225) 751-0823 for information.

Games galore

Jones Creek Regional Branch Library is the place to be for adults looking for fun and games.

Scrabble will be played from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Prizes will be awarded.

Small World, Settlers of Catan, Dominion and other games are in store for 20-Somethings Game Night, also from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Rocket’s Game Night at the Library, featuring players from Rocket’s Hideout Cards and Games, is set for 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
