Voters in Ascension Parish overwhelmingly supported a proposal to renew a property tax Saturday and issue $120 million in bonds to build new schools.

Eighty percent, or 4,536 votes, of the 5,695 ballots cast were in favor of the proposal, with all 74 precincts reporting.

Turnout in the parish was 7.7 percent, according to the Secretary of State’s website.

Early voting showed strong support for renewal of a property tax that will allow the parish to issue $120 million in bonds to build new schools in Ascension Parish.

Roughly two-thirds, or 680 votes, of the 1,017 ballots cast during early voting were in favor of the proposal, which would provide funding to build three new primary schools, a new middle school, plan for a new high school and more.
