The Baton Rouge Area Association of Black Journalists recently awarded five scholarships to students and a professional member of the organization to attend the 40th annual National Association of Black Journalists Convention and Career Fair Aug. 5-9 in Minneapolis, according to a news release.

LSU student Cecil Rucker, Southern University student Raquel Sims and WBRZ Channel 2 morning producer Cheryl Stroy will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the convention. Students Kara St. Cyr, of Baton Rouge Community College, and Amber Smith, of LSU, will receive registration assistance.

The winners will have an opportunity to meet journalists and potential employers and attend educational workshops.

The scholarships are funded by money raised at the association’s third annual Scholarship Luncheon held in April.
