STAR-SPANGLED CELEBRATION: Begins at noon, downtown near the USS Kidd. No ice chests, barbecue pits, tents or pets allowed.

AIR RAID BATON ROUGE: 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Louisiana Air National Guard will conduct a fly-by over the USS Kidd with F-15 Eagle jet aircraft in tribute to men and women in uniform. Immediately following, grab your helmets and take cover as vintage World War II aircraft stage a mock attack on the USS Kidd. The destroyer will defend herself with her guns.


6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Hot-air balloons to light up the evening skies.

BATON ROUGE CONCERT BAND: 7:30 p.m., on the steps of the State Capitol. The concert features selections from “The Music Man,” “Star Wars,” and Led Zeppelin On Tour as well as marches and patriotic tunes. The concert is free, and those in attendance will be able to see the fireworks on the levee from the Capitol steps.

FIREWORKS ON THE MISSISSIPPI: 9 p.m. fireworks show presented by WBRZ-TV and The Advocate.

Port Allen

JULY 4TH FEST: 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Riverfront in downtown Port Allen. There will be face-painting, a magician, clowns, a space walk, food booths. Live music from 5 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. No ice chests allowed.

St. Francisville

AMERICAN LEGION: Town Ball Park on Burnett Road, behind the Sonic. Food, drinks and music all day. Fireworks at dark. Tailgate with your friends.

MAIN STREET’S POPPIN’: At the Birdman. Watermelon-eating and seed-spitting contests along with a pie contest. Bring two pies: one to sell and one to judge. All entries should arrive by 12:30 p.m. and judging will begin at 1 p.m. Proceeds benefit Arts For All.


FOURTH OF JULY HOME TOWN CELEBRATION: Bayou Plaquemine Water Front Park, 57845 Foundry St. The Plaquemine Lock Historic Site will be open for tours of the lock house and the boat pavilion from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and a demonstration by the Old Engine Boat Club from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Iberville Museum will be open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. for patriotic games, children’s art and other activities on the grounds.

VETERANS BOAT PARADE: Departs at 4:15 p.m. from the boat ramp across from the Iberville Parish Jail and arrives at 5 p.m. at Bayou Plaquemine Water Front Park. There is no charge to enter a boat. There will be “Dancin’ on the Boardwalk” to live music from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a dance contest at 7 p.m. Fireworks on Bayou Plaquemine start at 9 p.m. For details, call (225) 687-3116.

New Roads

FALSE RIVER BOAT PARADE: The theme is “Swamp People,” celebrating the TV series on the History Channel. Judging of decorated piers begins at 11 a.m. Judging of decorated watercraft and party barges begins at noon. The boat parade begins at 1 p.m. in front of La Express Boat Landing.

Government Offices, Schools Closed

City-parish, state and federal offices and courts are closed Monday in observance of Independence Day.

Garbage and recyclables will be collected Monday and the North Landfill will be open.

Regular mail will not be delivered or collected on the Fourth of July.

Post offices are closed Monday. Only Express Mail will be delivered.

Capital Area Transit System buses will run a Sunday schedule on Monday.

All East Baton Rouge Parish public libraries are closed Monday.

East Baton Rouge Parish School Board offices are closed Monday.

LSU and Southern University are closed Monday. Baton Rouge Community College is also closed Monday.

Most banks are closed Monday.

BREC will close these facilities and programs Monday:

Swimming pools at Anna T. Jordan Community Park, City-Brooks Community Park, Gus Young Park, Howell Community Park, Jefferson Highway Park and Webb Park.

Recreation programs and classes, including day camp.

Independence Park Theatre, Magnolia Mound Plantation, Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center, Highland Road Park Observatory, Baton Rouge Gallery and Farr Park Equestrian Center.

All BREC fitness centers.
