St. Michael the Archangel High School gave its Mother Teresa of Calcutta Christian Service Award to seniors Andrew Button and Jennifer Vu at Mass on April 21.
The award is the highest service award at St. Michael and is given each year to a senior boy and a senior girl for service to others throughout their four years at the school, a news release said.
Button has served at Assisted Living Homes and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, attended the March for Life twice and is active in his church parish, Most Blessed Sacrament, and at the school.
Button spent a week last summer living and learning about poverty at a service immersion camp, followed by three weeks at St. Agnes summer camp, where he volunteered with children in poverty. He plans to continue working with the poor after graduation.
Vu has been active in church, school and community, including serving the elderly, assisting English as a second language students, serving at Heritage Ranch, taking part in children’s art programs, attending the March for Life pilgrimage and giving back to her church parish, St. Thomas More.
