A Baton Rouge teenager previously charged with attempted murder in a Feb. 14 shooting was indicted Wednesday on a murder charge after the shooting victim died over the weekend.

Travon Scott, 16, 2635 Erie St., was initially indicted in March on a charge of attempted second-degree murder in the shooting of Michael Patterson, 19, at a Huron Street apartment complex.

Patterson, of Baton Rouge, who had been on life support since being shot in the head, died Saturday, prompting police to book Scott for second-degree murder Tuesday.

Police suspect Scott, Patterson and others were playing with a handgun when Scott snatched the gun from Patterson’s hand, pointed it at him and pulled the trigger, Baton Rouge police Cpl. L’Jean McKneely has said.

The shooting occurred inside Patterson’s Huron Street home.

Scott could be sentenced to life in prison without parole if convicted of second-degree murder.

The case has been assigned to state District Judge Mike Erwin.
