Carolyn McKnight-Bray, a former assistant director of the Dallas parks and recreation department, was selected to be BREC’s new superintendent Thursday evening by the board of commissioners.

McKnight-Bray, 55, will take the top spot overseeing the East Baton Rouge Parish park system, replacing Bill Palmer, who has worked for BREC for 33 years.

She currently works as the executive general manager of business development and procurement services for the city of Dallas, an office that is responsible for developing and implementing the city’s minority- and women-owned business enterprise programs.

Before taking the job with the city of Dallas, McKnight-Bray said, she had spent most of her life working for parks and recreation.

Palmer’s last day is Jan. 28.

McKnight-Bray’s start date and salary are negotiable.
