A 26-year-old Baton Rouge man has been dealt a 37-year prison term after admitting his guilt in a fatal 2013 shooting on North Sherwood Forest Boulevard.

Dorion Terrell Jenkins was scheduled to stand this week on a second-degree murder charge in the slaying of 25-year-old Brandon Carter, but he pleaded guilty Thursday to manslaughter and was sentenced by state District Judge Tony Marabella.

Police officers patrolling an area known as “the cut,” near North Sherwood Forest and Florida boulevards, heard gunshots June 12, 2013, and found Carter’s body outside an apartment complex in the 2100 block of North Sherwood Forest.

Carter was shot numerous times during an apparent armed robbery.
