The Foundation for Historical Louisiana presents “Baton Rouge Preservation Wins and Losses of the Past 50 Years,” part of the Heritage Lecture Series, at 6 p.m. March 10 at the Old Governor’s Mansion.
Speaker is Natalie Mead, curator and education director at the Old Governor’s Mansion. There also will be viewing of photos and displays on wins and losses in Louisiana preservation efforts in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Historic Preservation Act.

CASA volunteer orientation
Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers advocate for abused and neglected children living in foster care to help them reach safe, permanent homes.
Orientation sessions will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday, noon March 10, 1 p.m. March 14, 6 p.m. March 22 and 3 p.m. March 30. Sessions are 45 minutes long and are held at the CASA office, 848 Louisiana Ave. The next volunteer training course begins May 3.
Stick Horse Rodeo
Saddle up for the annual Stick Horse Rodeo on April 9 at BREC’s Farr Park Equestrian Center, 6402 River Road. Registration begins at 9 a.m., followed by competition from 10 a.m. to noon.
Children ages 2 to 7 will compete in bronc riding, bull riding, pole bending, barrel racing and flag racing in a miniature rodeo arena on stick horses. Prizes will be given in two age groups. Bring your own stick horse or borrow one from BREC.
A petting zoo, face painting and other equine activities also will be available.

‘The Reign of Huey P. Long’
Richard D. White Jr., author of “Kingfish : The Reign of Huey P. Long,” will present his biography of the former governor during a 10:30 a.m. program Wednesday at the Bluebonnet Regional Branch Library.
