Clarissa McGarner, a senior athlete at St. Michael the Archangel High School, signed her national letter of intent to join the track team at the University of New Orleans at a special ceremony on April 14 in the school library with faculty, coaches, students and family members in attendance.

McGarner is a two-year varsity letterman who has been a member of the United Southern Express Track team since 2009.

In 2014, she was the 6-4A District shot put champion; placed fourth in discus in the 6-4A District; was a USA Track and Field Junior Olympics shot put and hammer qualifier; and was a USA Track and Field National Junior Olympics hammer qualifier, according to a news release.

McGarner’s accomplishments in 2015 included 6-4A District shot put runner-up; third place in discus in the 6-4A District; USA Track and Field Junior Olympics shot put and hammer qualifier; and USA Track and Field Junior Olympics Region 6 hammer qualifier.
