A Baton Rouge couple has been arrested after they reportedly left their 5-year-old daughter with a stranger, but never returned to pick her up.
Shane Clyde White, 37, and Lacey Nichole Allen, 32, were arrested on charges of child desertion and cruelty to juveniles.
The woman, residing at Fountain Hotel on Airline Drive, told investigators the couple asked her to watch the child about 1 p.m. on Valentine's Day, saying they would be back within 45 minutes. When they hadn't returned by 3 p.m., she brought the child to Baton Rouge Police, at which point the state Office of Children & Family Services was notified, according to booking documents.
At about 8 p.m., after interviewing the child, officials went to where Allen and White had been residing at the Woodacres Hotel on Airline Highway. The pair arrived shortly after with their other daughter, who is 2 years old. They were riding in a car filled with trash, dirty diapers and containing just one car seat, according to the report.
The pair's hotel room was also found in filthy condition, with food and clothing on the floor, spoiling food on the stove, the sink piled full of pans, and an almost-empty refrigerator containing just a small amount of milk, the report says.
The only furniture in the room was a queen bed, two tables and a nightstand.
Allen and White were given a drug screening and were booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
