Update, Oct. 11 9:05 a.m.: The woman who was struck by the oncoming train, Angela Tolliver, 61, or Lafayette, died in a Lafayette area hospital from injuries.

A Lafayette woman was struck by a train on Saturday at West Third Street and critically injured, said Lafayette Police Department spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton.

The 61-year-old woman was walking across the tracks around 7:30 a.m. when she was hit by a westbound train, Mouton said.

She was taken to a local hospital and is in critical condition, Mouton said. No additional information was immediately available on how the woman came to be on the tracks.
